TAODS and HYT Join Forces!

TAODS and The Hippodrome Youth Theatre combine forces to bring this award-winning musical to the stage at the Hippodrome.

Not to be confused with the American themed Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical, this adaptation is true to the famous film and novel starring Alan Bates and Hayley Mills. This critically acclaimed musical will enthral audiences with its powerful and moving score and book.

The innocence of youth and the prejudices of adults collide in this heart-warming tale. The time is the late 1950s, the place, a small village in Lancashire. Hurrying to a barn with three rescued kittens, Cathy, a schoolgirl, discovers a stranger hiding there. She recognises Him immediately as Jesus Christ and tells her sister, Nan. The next day their brother Charles also learns of their discovery. They decide to tell nobody, but gradually word spreads through the children of the village. Anxious to protect Jesus from unbelieving adults, they keep His arrival a secret and besides, most of their parents are preoccupied with news of a convict on the loose in the area. Trouble starts when the village bully, Raymond, threatens to give the game away.

Featuring a full orchestra, and two award winning theatre groups, this promises to be a production that you shouldn’t miss. â€‹

Location: Hippodrome Theatre

We are looking for talented young performers to join our cast for our production of the musical, Whistle Down The Wind. This is a musical adaptation of the novel by Mary Hayley Bell, with roles for a number of young performers. Set in the 1950s in rural England, it tells the story of a group of children who discover a mysterious man hiding in their barn. They mistakenly believe him to be Jesus and become determined to protect him from the adult world, which views him as a fugitive.

There are a number of roles including the following key parts:

• Cathy Bostock (Playing age 16): The strong, caring leader of the group. Cathy must bring depth and emotion to her performance, guiding her siblings through a touching journey.

• Nan Bostock (Playing age 14): A sweet and nurturing presence, Nan brings warmth and innocence to the family dynamic.

• Charles Bostock (Playing age 10-12): The youngest of the bunch, Charles embodies the curiosity and playfulness of childhood while navigating life’s challenges.

This tight-knit trio, having lost their mother at a young age, must portray the bonds of family and resilience as they are raised by their Dad and Auntie. We are looking for children who can act and sing authentically, capturing the essence of their characters with natural innocence and faith.

All young performers are welcome! Whether you’ve performed with us before or looking to step into the spotlight at the Hippodrome the first time, we can’t wait to meet you!

Don’t miss this chance to be part of an unforgettable story! Come share your talent with us at the Hippodrome Theatre! To register for a place at the auditions, please click the 'Express Your Interest' box.
